MPAC: USA Field Hockey Men to Compete in Pan American Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? The USA field hockey men will look to improve their international standings and compete for a spot in the 2006 World Cup when the team travels to London Ontario for the 2nd Pan American Cup.

Scheduled for the TD Waterhouse Stadium on the campuis of the Univ. of Western Ontario, London, the tournament runs May 12-23 with the winner earning the continent's automatic spot in the 2006 World Cup.

The USA men will begin the tournament in Pool A with Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Puerton Rico and Venezuela. Pool B includes Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Trinidad & Tobago and Uruguay.

Head coach Shiv Jagday's team includes 2003 Pan Am Games team members Jang Badhesha (Santa Clara, Calif.), Rinku Bhamber (Simi Valley, Calif.), Pat Cota (Camarillo, Calif.), Pat Harris (Moorpark, Calif.), Shawn Hindy (Westlake Village, Calif.), Daraspreet Kainth (Fullerton, Calif.), Koijan Kainth (Fullerton, Calif.), Gurpal Kundi (Glendora, Calif.), Jarred Martin (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Shawn Nakamura (Camarillo, Calf.), Arjan Reyatt (Brea), Jeb Saez (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Ramandeep Sandhu (Camarillo, Calif.), Ian Scally (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Jason Wellings (Thousand Oaks, Calif.).

Also named to the Pan Am Cup team are Malachi Mahan (Camarillo, Calif.), Ramandeep Sandhu (Camarillo, Calif.) and Nate Coolidge (Sandwich, Mass.) who will be making his first international tour with the USA team.

The Pan Am Cup champion will join continental champions from Oceania, Asia, Europe and Africa in the World Cup, Sept. 6-17, 2006 in Mönchengladbach, Germany. The five continental champions will be joined by six or seven additional teams from the World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Changzhou City, China in early 2006.

The USA men placed fifth behind defending champion Cuba, runner-up Canada, third-place Argentina and fourth place Chile in the 2001 Pan American Cup
