Field Hockey Canada is hosting the 2nd Men’s Pan American Cup in London, Ontario from 12 – 23 May 2004. The 12 team tournament will be played at TD Waterhouse Stadium at the University of Western Ontario.
As a qualifier for the 11th Men’s World Cup to be held in Germany in 2006, Canada will be trying to topple higher ranked and Olympic bound Argentina for top spot. The Canadians will also have to watch Cuba who surprised them at the last Pan American Cup in 2001 beating them in the final 2-1 and winning the berth to the 2002 World Cup. Argentina and Chile finishing 3rd and 4th respectively at that event.

Argentina is currently ranked 7th in the world while Canada sits at 15th, however the matches between these two countries can go either way on any given day and their last match was played at the 2003 Pan American Games where Argentina and Canada met in the final and Argentina won 1-0.

Canada’s first match on May 12th in Pool B is against Trinidad and Tobago at 4 PM. Other teams in Pool B are Cuba, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles and Uruguay. Pool A has Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Puerto Rico, United States and Venezuela.

Best of luck to the Venezuelan Team, a good mix of experience and young talents, play hard, like we did in Pto Rico.

Curious on the Netherlands Antilles, as they amazed everybody last year winning from the USA and with easter a win over Venezuela.
won't be suprised if they end in fourth place!
