The 19th National Women's Hockey Championship which was due to be held in the year 2000 is now being held at Lahore from April 14 to 26, 2001. Announcing the dates for the championship the representative of Pakistan Hockey federation's Women's Wing said that the programme of Women's Hockey Championship has been finalised in a meeting of Pakistan
Hockey Federation[PHF] Women's Wing in Lahore. Punjab women's Hockey Association[PWHA] has been assigned the responsibility to organise the 19th National Women's hockey Championship. The 18th Women's hockey Championship was held in December 1999,which was organised by the Sindh Women's Hockey Association[SWHA]
The National Women's Hockey Championship had been started from 1976 and it was held at Lahore 8 times and the coming event will be the 9th,7 times at Karachi,2 times at Quetta and 1 time at Peshawar. Currently Railways women's hockey team is the defending championwho had earlier won the championship 10 times. Karachi, Lahore and Army had won the championship two times each, while Punjab and Rawalpindi had won the championship once. Railways women's hockey team is the national champion for the last five years continuously.
