China brush aside Singapore 2-0 : snatch 7th spot
Karachi : China clinched seventh position in the 5th Mens Junior Asia Cup at Hockey Club of Pakistan, Karachi. They overwhelmed Singapore 2-0 in a lackluster fixture on 28 April 2004.
It was second meeting between the two teams in JAC whose history is orbited around 17 years. Chinese were also victorious in the previous meeting in 1992 pool encounter by 4-1. Chinese were sixth in last edition when they lost to Pakistan 0-3 in 5th/6th position match. They were 5th in 1988, 6th in 1996 and 7th in 1996. On the other hand, Singapore, also, in their three previous appearances put up miserable display and finished 10th in 1992, 2000 and ninth in 1996.
Fangming Luo-led China struck twice in as many minutes in first half to build 2-0 lead and kept these goals until the final whistle. Keeper Zulkarnain Salim of Singapore failed to foil the attempts of Zhongqiang Guo (25th minute) and Yixian Liu (25th minute) who helped the East Asian team to finish seventh in the ten-day under-21 show.
Japan fill fifth spot : beat Bangladesh 1-0
