Karachi : Helped by two second - half goals within a minute by Zahidul Islam, Bangladesh outwitted Singapore 3-0 in the Classification Match for
5-8 Places in the 5th Men?s Junior Asia Cup 2004 at Karachi?s Hockey Club of Pakistan.
It was Bangladesh?s third straight win over Singapore in JAC?s history.
Their previous two wins were with handsome margin of 7-2 in 1992 and 7-1 in 1996.
Their position will be better than 2000 edition as they avoided 7th place match. They were seventh in 2000 after being 5th in 1992 and 6th in 1992.
After a dull and drab first-half which produced no goal, Bangladesh broke the ice in the 45th minute when they were awarded a penalty-stroke. Zahidul Islam made no mistake as keeper Zulkarnain Salim wondered where his cover might be. Salim was also a frustrated man within 60 seconds when again Zahidul Islam proved too good for him with a field goal. Hosne Mubarak rounded off the tally in the 62nd minute.
China will clash with Singapore for the seventh position match while Japan will collide with loser of Bangladesh for 5th position match. Both these matches will be played on Wednesday (28 April) at 2.30 PM and 5.00 PM.
