USA Field Hockey Women Top Pool B Standings With 2-0 win over Uruguay
Bridgetown, BAR - Kristen McCann's early first half goal was all the scoring the USA field hockey team would need as the USA downed Uruguay, 2-0, to claim the top spot in Pool B at the Pan American Cup.
With the win, the USA advances to play the #2 seed in Pool A, Canada, in Monday's semifinal. Argentian will meet Uruguay in the other semifinal contest. The winner of the tournament earns the continent's automatic spot in the 2006 World Cup.
McCann scored the first USA goal of the game for the third consecutive match as she netted a field goal past Uruguay keeper Andrea Fazzio in the 16th minute. She had scored earlier game-opening goals against Trindidad & Tobago (9:00) and Barbados (4:00).
McCann's goal would be all the USA would need as keeper Amy Tran and the USA defense shutout Uruguay for the remainder of the game.
Tracey Fuchs added an insurance goal in the 61st minute to score her fourth goal of the game.
