BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Argentina and the United States finished first in Groups A and B by defeating the Netherlands Antilles and Uruguay 16-0 and 2-0, respectively, in the second women's Pan-American Cup at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Saturday.

World champions Argentina will play Uruguay at 5.30pm local time on Monday while the US will clash against Canada at 8pm in the South American and North American derbies.

ARGENTINA V NETHERLAND ANTILLES
Five goals from Vanina Oneto and Natalí Doreski and the others by Magdalena Aicega, Alejandra Gulla, Ayelén Stepnik, Marina Di Giácomo, María de la Paz Hernández and Mariné Russo gave Argentina the demolishing win.

Argentina played a calm first half, moving the ball slowly but with precision.
The Netherlands Antilles defended well, especially their keeper Charlotte Hartmans van de Rijdt, who sparkled.

The Lionesses opened the score in the 15th minute through Oneto, who connected a rebound. Captain Aicega increased the lead from a short corner in the 26th minute. Three minutes later Gulla capitalized on a cross from Doreski for the 3-0 lead. When the first half had expired, Stepnik netted the fourth from a corner rebound.

Argentina scored a dozen after half-time. Doreski's five were netted in the 37th, 40th, 53rd, 55th and 68th, while Oneto scored her other four in the 46th, 52nd, 60th and 69th.

Di Giácomo (45th), Hernández (50th) and Russo (65) completed the score.

CANADA IN SEMIFINALS
Canada reached the semifinals of the second women's Pan-American Cup by defeating Chile 2-0 on Saturday.

Kristen Taunton and Lesley Magnus gave Canada a deserved victory.

Chile started better, pressing the North Americans and producing some good chances. But Canada reacted gaining the midfield, specially after the South Americans missed striker Paula Infante (who was temporarily sent off due to rough play).

Thus, Canada tightened their marks and improved their precision to take control of play.

Their attacks became more and more dangerous, but Chile's back line and goalie Constanza Abud made fine savings. But they could not prevented Kristen Taunton's goal, who deservedly opened the score, in the 23rd minute.

Chile attacked after half-time, but their advances did not harm Canada.

The South Americans controlled midfield stopping the Canadians advances, who tried to take advantage of the counter-attacks.

A short corner gave Canada their second goal, in the 63rd minute, through Lesley Magnus, who capitalized on a rebound.

Canada were superior than Chile and though the South Americans did not play bad they showed lack of conviction to win the match.

Canada: Forbes; MacLean, D'Abreo, Hunt, Rushton; Taunton, Rezansoff, Jameson; Magnus, Leslie and Cuthbert. Also played: Buker, Simpson and Timmer. Coach: Kimo Linders.

Chile: Abud; Albertz, Wenz, Martín, Debesa; Wilson, Walbaum, Villagra; P.
Infante, García and Daniela Infante. Also played: Thiermann, C. Infante, Wagner, Matus and Fernández. Coach: Luis Ciancia.

Umpires: Soledad Iparraguirre (Argentina) and Lisa Marcano (Trinidad & Tobago).

Booking - Yellow cards: 18m & 45m, Paula Infante (Ch); 68m, Camila Infante (Ch).

UNITED STATES V URUGUAY
Kristen McCann and Tracey Fuchs scored for the US victory.

The first half was even and open as Uruguay opposed a superior team with a
clever tactic.

The South Americans showed organization, patience and accuracy.

Both teams produced few scoring options, but the US goal was unexpected as
McCann surprised everybody deflecting a strong cross to put the US 1-0
ahead.

The North Americans pushed Uruguay after half-time, but the Pan-American
bronze medallist defended well, along with a good performance by keeper
Andrea Fazzio.

Meanwhile, Uruguay counter-attacked, but their advances did not harm the
North Americans.
Captain Fuchs increased the lead in the 61st minute to seal a deserved win.

United States: Tran; Lingo, Jelley, Larson; Beach, Barber, Loy, Fuchs; K.
Smith, McCann and Rizzo. Also played: Fronzoni, Keller, Wooley and T. Smith.
Coach: Beth Anders.

Uruguay: Fazzio; Bisignano, Ceretta, Bueno, Rebollo; Carluccio, Chaira,
Margni, Gibernau; Dupont and Casabó. Also played: Raiz, Saquero and
Acquarone. Coach: Cristián González.

Umpires: Claudia Videla (Chile) and Renate Peters (Germany).

BARBADOS V TRINIDAD & TOBAGO
Hosts Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago tied 2-2 in the Caribbean derby, in the
last match of the day of the second women's Pan-American Cup on Saturday.

With this result, Barbados finished third and Trinidad & Tobago fourth in
the pool B. Then, Chile will play Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday at 6pm, while
the Netherlands Antilles face Barbados at 8.30pm.

Barbados' goals were netted by Tricia-ann Greaves, in the second minute, and
Deborah Holder, a minute before half-time.

Blair Wynne, in the 28th minute, and Nicole Dixon-Aming netted for Trinidad.

The USA has come a long way but playing weaker oppositon does not mean nothing. Most DI college team could be T+ Tand other teeam they have played.

the real test is argentina and anyone who know hokcey know this will be a 4-1 game and the very best.

maybe NOW the AARP players will retired....please don't mention goals scored...yeah if you given every p/c you % tell you score .

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here prediction. Lets not try to compare D1 hockey and international hockey. I would say only the very best D1 teams could give any of the pan am teams competition. Take it from someone who knows first hand.

You claim to know international hockey, but you don't get it. The teams that actually go out in the world are far ahead of any D1 college team in the US. When the US team did their college tour the only game that wasn't a big score against the (top) D1 teams was the game against Michigan in a downpour. Apparently a massive amount of rain fell during the game. An Argentine score against any college team would be >20 anytime they wanted to. Chile, and apparently Canada and Uruguay are now up to an improved level.
International hockey is just different to what we do here. It is much more sophisticated, and the ways teams can more the ball around are faster and more varied than what college hockey prepares you for.
We US hockey fans need to get over the D1 stuff - it's just bad preparation for international games.
