BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - The second women's Pan American Cup starts on Wednesday with eight teams, divided in two zones, taking part at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex here.
The winner of the tournament will qualify for the 2006 World Cup to take place in Madrid, Spain.
Argentina, the defending titlist, Canada, Chile and the Netherlands Antilles are located at the pool A, while Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay and the United States are in pool B.
The tournament starts today until Wednesday April 28 where the final will be held at 7pm local time.
On Wednesday, Argentina will begin their participation facing Canada - who on Monday night defeated the United States 1-0 in a friendly - at 8pm local time.
The event will open, early in the morning, with the US clashing against Trinidad & Tobago, while Barbados face Uruguay (coaching by Argentina's Cristián González).
After these two matches, the opening ceremony will take place, to return at 6pm with Chile - under Argentine coach Luis Ciancia - playing Netherlands Antilles.
Finally, Argentina will close the opening day against Canada.
The tournament director is Canadian Paula Parks assisted by technical officers Liliana Capurro of Argentina and Barbados' Monica Cumberbatch.

Cup vs Games
I'm not sure, but you may be confusing the Pan Am Games with the Pan Am Cup. Two different tournaments. The Games is the qualifying tournament for the Olympics, and the Cup is the qualifying tournament for the World Cup... At least I think that is how it goes.

The Pan AMerican Games, is a tournament like the Olimpics Games, where take part all countries of America, and there are a lot of sports. In this Game, there are sports where if you won the gold medal you are automatically qualifed to the olimpics. this is the case of hockey. The last Games where in Santo Domingo where Argentina won. The Pan American Cup is a tournament that qualified to the next World Cup, where take part teams that have won the qualy tournament to acces to the Cup. For example, Argentina won the South American CUp, Uruguay ended second, so they are in the Cup.I wish you have understad me..
The cup will be to Argentina...!!
