ARGENTINA 9 MEXICO 0 (HT 5-0)
PlanetFieldHockey Player of the Game: Luciana Aymar - Argentina
THE OVERVIEW:
Argentina continued their run of dominance here, cruising to their 6th straight victory and scoring 9 more goals. Rognoni scored a couple, Aymar, Gulla, Garcia, Aicega, Doreski and Russo also contributing on the scoresheet. Mexico put in their share of hard work, but never made it into the Argentinean circle, where Antoniska had a relaxing day. The result means Argentina ends up at the top of the standings, while Mexico will play in the 5th/6th place playoff.
THE WORDS:
Cecilia Rognoni, #16, Argentina
?Canada played very well yesterday against the US. But I think the US is a better team.?
Inako Puzo, Coach Venezuela
?It could have been 20 goals for Argentina. I think God might be Mexican.?
?I don?t think Argentina cared if it was 9, 10, 11 goals.?

CANADA 4 JAMAICA 0 (HT 1-0)
PlanetFieldHockey Player of the Game: Carla Somerville ? Canada.
THE OVERVIEW:
Canada needed to score a bundle of goals today to catch up to the USA on goal difference. But Jamaica held firm at the back, and Canada failed to capitalize on their penalty corners in the first half, to make the second half more urgent. After taking the lead in the first half, the rest of the goals came in the last 15 minutes. Jamaica will play for 5th place against Mexico on Sunday, while Canada will play against Uruguay on Sunday for third position. Canada has qualified for the World Cup Qualifier in France later on this year.
THE WORDS:
Michelle Holt, Coach, Jamaica
?This was another game for Jamaica to learn from. I don?t think the result would have made a difference ? we were going to play for 5th/6th anyway.?
?I thought we have been disorganised in defence early in the tournament. So being able to hold out until the 25th minute before Canada scored was good.?
?We knew that the more penalty corners we conceded, the more chance we would be scored on. We have to work on our close control in the circle, both offensively and defensively.?
Lauralee ?Jumbo? Kopeck, Captain, Canada
?It was frustrating. We seemed to keep running into their sticks. They have all these tall girls, with long reaches. We didn?t do enough traversing the field. We tried to go one-on-one too much instead of passing.?
?The execution wasn?t right on corners. Some of the hits weren?t on goal. The stops weren?t on. Even straight shots ? we should have gone for rebounds, put the ball on the pads instead of trying to be fancy.?

UNITED STATES 3 URUGUAY 0 (HT 2-0)
PlanetFieldHockey Player of the Game: Katie Kauffman, USA
THE OVERVIEW: The USA was looking for a win over Uruguay and a ticket through to the final tonight. Once the teams settled in, the flow of play fell towards the Americans. The first goal broke the ice and from that point on the result was never in doubt. No really threat going forward, the Uruguayan team was able to hold the fort in their own end. With the result, both teams qualify for the World Cup Qualifier in France. USA make the final, and Uruguay reach the 3rd/4th place game.
THE WORDS:
Bettiana Ceretta, Uruguay
On qualifying for the World Cup Qualifier in France: ?We are so happy. It?s a dream come true.?
On the 3rd/4th match against Canada: ?We have a very good spirit on our team. I hope we can play a very good game against Canada ? and get revenge for the first game (Canada won 2-1). We want to attack more. We had too much respect for Canada in the first half. We must attack to win the game.?
?We must train hard for France. But we also must find money ? we don?t have the money yet. We need to find sponsors. We paid US00 each to come here for this tournament. This is too much for each person. We sold raffle tickets, but that is not enough.?
Carrie Lingo, USA
?It was a really good game ? Uruguay came out to play.?
On her two goals: ?I don?t do anything, I just sit there at the post ? the other players hit the ball and I just deflected it in.?
Tara Jelley, USA
?We?re definitely happy to be in the final. We took the long road, but at least we?re there.?
On Sunday?s upcoming Final against Argentina: ?Argentina beat us 4-1 in the last game, but 2 of the goals were in the last few minutes. So we know we have the team to do it (Win the game, and a spot at the 2002 World Cup) ? we just need to execute the little things. Minimise the mistakes we had first time around, pay more attention to detail. If we can do that, then it?s anyone?s game.?
