URUGUAY 5, VENEZUELA 0 (HT 3-0)
PlanetFieldHockey Player of the Game: Uruguay #18 Eleonora Rebolla

THE OVERVIEW:
Uruguay has all but secured their place in the 3rd/4th place game for the Americas Cup after this win. It took a while for Uruguay to score their first goal, but after they scored, they rolled to an easy win. Venezuela were positive on the field, trying to score their first goal of the tournament, but were unable to do so. Uruguay were ecstatic after the game,

THE WORDS:
Virginia Silva, Captain, Mexico
?This is a great win for us. We have basically qualified now ? this is a big, big win. It is a positive step for us because it will our first time going to a tournament of this magnitude (WCQ in France)?
?We?ve had a turf for almost a year now, and it has been very good for us to practice on it. This has helped us to improve.?

ARGENTINA 9, JAMAICA 0 (HT 5-0)
PlanetFieldHockey Player of the Game: Argentina #16 Cecilia Rognoni

THE OVERVIEW:
Argentina was in charge of this game from the start. Scoring first in the 4th minute, the Olympic silver-medallists cruised to their 5th win in a row. Their penalty corner unit was on fire, Rognoni hammering in a natural hattrick in the first half on the way to a 9-goal win. Jamaica showed some initiative and speed going forward, but in the end their skills and fitness were not enough to compete with the women in the blue and white shirts.

THE WORDS:
Magdalena Aicega, Argentina Vice Captain, Central Defender
?This tournament is OK for us. We knew that we would play Canada and the USA, and that the other teams would not be as strong. But we have to continue to play the same way against all teams. We have to play well up here (pointing to head, referring to playing smart!).?
?We will be playing teams soon who will be very good. Australia is coming to play us in April, and then we have the Champions trophy.?
?It is good for us to play games. We have had a break for a while. Last year was a very long year of hockey.?

Dana Crawford, Jamaica Goalkeeper
?The Argentinean forwards attack in numbers. They have excellent skill, and at no time do you know what they are going to do. They are always ready to shoot, from anywhere.?
?We don?t have that level of skill here, so I don?t get that kind of practice, high shots and backhand shots.?
?It?s really a privilege to play against a team like this.?

THE DETAILS:
Goals:
4 Argentina ? Cecilia Rognoni
9 Argentina ? Cecilia Rognoni
30 Argentina ? Cecilia Rognoni
33 Argentina ? Soledad Garcia
35 Argentina ? Vanina Oneto

CANADA 1, USA 1 (HT 0-0)
PlanetFieldHockey Player of the Game: USA #9 Tracey Fuchs

THE OVERVIEW:
This game was a battle. Not the most beautiful hockey, but the most entertaining game of the tournament nonetheless. Canada for the most part shut down the strengths of the US team, and vice versa. Neither team created many scoring chances in the first half. In the 48th minute, Canada?s Jenny Johnson scored a brilliant goal on a powerful forehand, then in her elation jumped up and threw her stick in the air. For this she received a yellow card (the umpire judging the stick-toss dangerous, although it didn?t hit anyone), and sat off for 10 minutes. The game tempo picked up after Canada scored, and the US began turning up the pressure. Four minutes later, Jill Reeve was slow to retreat from the ball on a Canadian free hit, and she earned her own yellow card. The game was hard-tackling high-intensity from here. The USA scored on a broken corner play in the 62nd minute, and the game ended in a draw. This will most likely be enough to get the USA into the Americas Cup final to play Argentina, leading Canada by goal difference. Today was Amy MacFarlane?s 100th game for Canada.

THE WORDS:
Dru Marshall, Coach, Canada
?I?m really proud of the kids. That?s the best game I?ve seen them play in a long time.?
?The umpiring was awful. We didn?t get our share of the calls ? I was stunned that they kept Jenny off for 10 minutes (after her goal and stick-throwing celebration). The umpire hadn?t seen it but the Americans complained.?
?The first half we played well, but we didn?t get anything, not even a shot. You?ve got to shoot the ball.?
?We know the weaknesses of the US better than anyone else, where the young players are, and we tried to capitalise.?

Nick Conway, Assistant Coach, USA
?It was a terrible game. Stop, start ? neither team was able to get anything going. Both teams know each other so well.?
?They pressed us in pretty well, and if you don?t have the basics to pass the ball, you won?t get through, and our basics were shocking today.?
?Really we?re lucky to get through.?

Jill Reeve, USA
On her yellow card: ?I was just protecting myself as I was moving back ? I guess it was just not fast enough.?
?Canada scored on a really good shot ? it was a real wake-up call for us. We weren?t playing the best hockey. The goal focused us to pick up the tempo.?
On Jenny Johnson?s yellow card: ?She threw her stick up. The celebration was in bad spirit. I think it was a good call.?

THE DETAILS:
Goals:
48 Canada ? Jenny Johnson
62 USA

Cards:
14 Carla Tagliente, USA ? Green
42 Tara Jelley, USA ? Green
48 Jenny Johnson, Canada ? Yellow

Go PAHF!
As a Jamaican hockey player it is really refreshing to see hockey of such high standards being played here. It means that we have a lot to learn, but watch out world! We are very fast learners!

Argentina is impressive especially their No. 8.player.

Congrats on the tie game Canada!! Dru shouldn't blame the umpires for the outcome. Why would someone throw their stick up in the air to celebrate? I've seen Jenny and other's do that at the CIAU Championships in Victoria. Celebrating is one thing, but hang on to your stick!

You never throw your stick! What would you hold in the air afterwords? Regardless, congrats on the goal Jenny....

Top Ten Ways to Celebrate a Goal:

10) point to your supporters in the crowd while running away from your teamates.

9) run to the corner flag and do the "Shorty".

8) take off your jersey and let the crowd read...."Jokers Rule" written on your undershirt.

7) dogpile your team-mates

6) dogpile your opposition

5) climb the cross bar and have a revelation about the name of a web-site? ;)

4) do the Bindi shoe shine.

3) look for Kenny...regardless of where he is and carry him back to center leaving his stick in the goal.

2) run to the PFH reporter's booth and ask them to let Birdie describe your goal as if he were an airline pilot.

1) throw your stick up in the air, hit someone in the head, take a ten minute misconduct and a tie game that could have been a win?

Look for Birdie's Top Ten next week:

"Top Ten ways to confuse US Field Hockey Officials with intelligent questions."
