The national hockey team's trip to Egypt to play in the annual Akbar El Yom tournament has been put off until May.
According to the Kenya Hockey Union chairman Hardev Singh, the organisers have asked invited countries to plan and travel in May. But independent sources said that the event which was supposed to have been held from March 20 to 29 was postponed because the hosts were still negotiating with Pakistan and India.
Originally, Egypt had invited South Africa, France, Spain and Kenya for the annual event. The Egyptians were supposed to field a 'B' side but if Pakistan and India agree to travel then Egypt will not field an additional side.
Today, the national team which is being coached by Mike Omondi play against Armed Forces from 4 pm at the Nairobi Simba Union. The team will have a short break when Armed Forces players travel to Abuja, Nigeria next month for the Africa Club championship.
Some of the players in the squad are: Kevin Otieno, Ken Osikuku, Moses Cheplait (Kenya Police), Martin Kabuu (United States International University-Africa), William Oketch, Zack Aura, Saidi Rashid, David Osino, Collins Okoth (Armed Forces), Inderjit Matharu, H. Mankoo (Nairobi Simba Union), Aasif Shah (Karate Axiom).
