Report from Orient Lyngby:

When Orient Lyngby arrived from Porto monday evening to Copenhagen it was a very satisfied team and coach which finished on a 6. place in the A-division European Indoor Cup. Orient Lyngby managed to stay in the A-division and the team were also able to play good hockey in all the matches and they even drew 5-5 with the mighty germans and had a very narrow loose to the finalist from Lille HC.

Orient Lyngby’s 1st match in the tournament was against the german champions from Muncher SC. It was a tough start but Orient Lyngby got into the game after being under hard pressure in the first 10 minutes. Down with 1-3 at halftime was no disaster and in the 2nd half Orient actually put a lot of pressure on the Germans. They were even up with 5-4 with 5 minutes to go but a superb goal from Philip Zeller saved the germans honour to make the final result 5-5.

The 2nd match was against Lille HC – a very experienced team who have played in the A-division for several years. The first 3 minutes of the match were a nightmare for Orient Lyngby as the went down with 0-3 in this period. After the chock the danes put themselfes together and got back into the game to make it 1-4 at halftime. After the break Orient Lyngby were much stronger and got at 3-4 but unfortunately they missed a penaltystroke and instead the Frenchmen closed the game at 5-3. This meant that the Danes only chance to reach the semis were to beat the Spanish team and hope for French victory against Muncher SC. The last thing didn’t happen and even with a 5-3 victory against CD Universidad Orient Lyngby had to settle for a 3rd place in the pool.

This meant that Orient Lyngby should clash with the other Scandinavian team from Valhalla. Valhalla had a very good tournament last year but with their two star-players Anders Eliasson and Magnus Mattson playing in Uhlenhorst and a couple of players who retired last year Orient Lyngby found no problems in beaten Valhalla with 11-4 and secure the Danish spot in the A-division. The Poles from Grundwald were winning their cross-game against the Spanish team just as convincing. Even the semifinals had no excitement as Lille trashed Wettingen with 8-2 an! d Muncher SC beat the local team from Espinho with the same numbers.

The final day on Sunday was close to become a disgrace. Water was coming down roof and making the floor slippery! The first match on Sunday between Valhalla and CD Universidad therefore had to be decided by penalty shooting. The second match between Orient Lyngby and Grundwald was postponed 2 hours after a lot of discussion. Fortunately the rain stopped and the match could be played. The poles proved to be a very strong team but Orient Lyngby managed to keep up with them and end 1st half with 1-1. After a quick goal to the Danes in the beginning of the 2nd half Grundwald stroke back with three in a row to make it 4-2. 5-4 to the poles short before end time forced Orient Lyngby to ga! mble but unfortunately the poles scored to 6-4 on a counterattack.

A great tournament was over and the Danish players could celebrate that they also play in the A-division next year. With the results from the B-division Orient already know they will face Rotweiss Wettingen, Lille HC and Oranje. Zwart in next years competion while the other pool consists of Club an der Alster, Portugal, Poland and Wiener AC. Yet is to be decided which club will host the tournement

Orient Lyngby’s results from Porto:

1st pool match: Orient Lyngby – Muncher SC: 5-5

2nd pool match: Orient Lyngby – Lille HC: 3-5

3rd pool match: Orient Lyngby – CD Universidad: 5-3

Cross-over match: 4th pool match: Orient Lyngby – Valhalla LHC: 11-4

Thanks
Hi Peter

We definetely have the chance to be in top4 next year but if you are unlucky you are relegated instead of reaching the semis - so you never know!

In the match for the 3/4. place the swiss were too strong for the portuguese. Wettingen is an experinced squad and the upcommers from Espinho (Espinho were promoted last year after loosing the final 2-7 to Orient) were lucky to reach the semis. It was a good match with some fine goals especially from Wettingen.

The final was also wellplayed and in the first 10 minutes the frenchmen managed to keep up with germans at 2-2. But suddenly Zeller and Michel do some incredible things and score outstanding goals. A team with such players only needs a couple of minutes to score 3 goals. And don't forget that Muncher have a first class goalie and 9 other very good players!

Cheers
