Great Britain’s women maintained their dominance over Russia with a 4-0 victory in the official Test match at Bisham Abbey.
However, having beaten the tourists comfortably in two training games the GB side were made to work much harder this evening.
Canterbury defender Mel Clewlow fired in a 20th-minute penalty corner before Clifton’s Helen Grant doubled the lead six minutes later.
The hosts struggled to break down Russia after the break but with seven minutes to go Bonagrass Grove forward Linda Clement made it 3-0 before Clewlow’s second penalty corner late on completed the victory.
Bobby Crutchley, Great Britain assistant coach, admitted: “It was an improved Russian display which stifled a sloppy Great Britain performance.”
