Malaysia ended their campaign in sixth spot when they were beaten 1-3 by Kazakhstan in the fifth to sixth placings in the Fifth Women's Asia Cup hockey tournament here yesterday.

Despite leading 1-0 at halftime through skipper Nor Saliza Ahmad Soobni's goal in the 17th minute, the Malaysian girls failed to hold on to their lead.

Kazakhstan scored their goals through Galia Baissarind, Nadezhda Sumkina and Vera Domashnava, two of them via penalty strokes.

In the other match for the seventh and eighth placings, Singapore edged Sri Lanka 3-2. – Bernama

Well, at least we needed to see where our girls fare. Of course there's al lot of problems here and there and obviously we need to do something about it. U see, in Malaysia, not many ladies are taking up sports seriously but there are a groups of them whom a re really in to it. But slowly things will change. We are not like the Europeans or Americans, where sports is a huge economic sector. Probably in the future, things will change.
