The talented Indian forward line showed glimpses of its brilliance as the hosts trounced Kazakhstan 8-0 to enter the semi-finals of the fifth Women's Asia Cup hockey here today.
The Commonwealth Games champions, who topped Pool A on better goal average, will take on Pool B runners-up and defending champions South Korea, while world championship bronze medallist China, will lock horns with Japan in the second semifinal on Friday.
In other matches of the day, China thrashed Malaysia 7-1 in Pool A while Japan defeated Korea 4-3 and Singapore got the better of Si Lanka 1-0 in Pool B.
It was a much improved performance by the Indian forwards, who were guilty of missing a plethora of chances in the first two matches. They made their intentions clear in the very first minute when Surinder Kaur finished off a probing individual run by Jyoti Kullu.
The duo were in the centre of action two minutes later with Surinder deflecting home Jyoti's hit to make it 2-0.
After getting the two-goal cushion, the hosts seemed to relax for a while and had to wait till the 28th minute when skipper Surajlata Devi, deflected a strong penalty corner hit of Suman Bala.
Sanggai Chanu (36th, 60th) and Adline Kerketta (50th, 51st) found the net twice while Saba Anjum (46th) added one to the tally as the Indians ensured that they achieve their target of topping their Pool.
