Malaysia defeated Kazakhstan 2-1 in their second match in Pool `A' during the Fifth Women's Asia Cup Hockey championship, here Monday.
Malaysia were leading 1-0 at half time.
The Malaysian girls opened accounts in the 29th minute through a field goal by Nadia B.A.R while the second came in 51st minute through a penalty corner, converted by Nurul Nadia.
Malaysia forced several penalty corners, but failed to make them count.
Showing good team work and coordination, it was evident that Malaysia, were undoubtedly the better side, pinning their opponents in their own half for long periods.
Malaysia would take on China on Wednesday in a crucial third match in Pool `A', which would decide their faith for a semifinal berth.
In two other matches, both in Pool `B', Japan whipped Sri Lanka 18-0 and Singapore lost 1-9 to South Korea. - Bernama
