LUSITANIAN hockey club is organising for the fourth 11-a-side men's invitation hockey tournament tomorrow at the Sharjah Wanderers ground.

Six teams have confirmed their participation in this popular event, organisers told a Press conference.

Last year's holders Awali Hockey Club of Bahrain are coming with a strong team and will be challenged by a formidable Muscat Select XI in addition to four UAE teams: Darjeeling, last year's runners-up, Tawaam Hospital, Al Ain, Sharjah Wanderers and host Lusitanians.

The tournament is co sponsored by Sun and Sand Sports Stores, Rose Studio And Stores, Al Hamra Tents and Umbrellas Trading and Midway Tours. The tournament will be played on a round robin league cum knock out basis, with the first four teams heading the table to meet in the semifinals.

The losing semifinalist will play for the Hardlines Trophy. Special awards for the best goal keeper, best defender, best half line player and the best player of the tournament are in the offing.

Eusebio Coelho of the organisers thanked the sponsors for their constant support for the game which needs promotion in the UAE. "We also grateful to Sharjah Wanderers club for permitting us to conduct this tournament on their grounds," said the veteran hockey official.

Just wanted to know what the final results were. I played for Awali Field Hockey Club back in 1990-1991 and had the opportunity to win all tournaments both years....
