Scotland’s bid to return to the elite of European indoor hockey suffered a setback in their opening game as they conceded a two-goal half-time lead to draw 4-4 with hosts Italy in Padova.
Following relegation from the top flight two years ago, the Scots are competing in the second-tier European Nations Cup Trophy event but they have been denied a number of experienced players who are on international duty with Great Britain’s outdoor squad.
Two goals from Nikki Kleppang and others from Bonagrass Grove team-mate Lindsay Thomson and Western’s Helen Craig put Scotland 4-2 up at the break but Italy hit back to snatch a point in the second half.
