It’s not often Hong Kong sports teams go away to major international qualifying tournaments as favorites, but such is the status of hockey, now days, in the territory.
The Hong Kong’s men’s and women’s U21 Teams are coached by a team of Mark Bailey, Arif Ali and Gurvinder Dillon.
The tournament serves as a qualifier for the Junior Asia Cup which then serves as the qualifier for the Asian representatives for the Junior World Cup.
In the 2 pool Boys / men’s competition there are 8 teams as follows:
Pool A
Bangladesh, Hong Kong China, Iran and Singapore
Pool B
Chinese-Taipei, Macau China, Oman, and Sri Lanka
The Girls competition sees three teams namely Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong China and Singapore.
The competition proper starts on Sunday 21 December 2003 with all matches being played at the Delta Sports Stadium, Singapore.
The opening day fixtures which sees the boy’s matches are as follows:
21 December 2003
Match 1 1400hrs Bangladesh v Hong Kong China
Match 2 1600hrs Iran v Singapore
Match 3 1800hrs Oman v Sri Lanka
Match 4 2000hrs Chinese-Taipei v Macau China
The first day of girl’s matches which is on Monday 22 December 2003 sees Chinese-Taipei v Hong Kong China.
The Girls Finals is due to played on Saturday 27 December 2003 at 1800hrs while the Boys Finals would be held on 28 December 2003 at 1900hrs.
The Hong Kong National U21 Junior Players for the tournament are:
