It’s not often Hong Kong sports teams go away to major international qualifying tournaments as favorites, but such is the status of hockey, now days, in the territory.

The Hong Kong’s men’s and women’s U21 Teams are coached by a team of Mark Bailey, Arif Ali and Gurvinder Dillon.

The tournament serves as a qualifier for the Junior Asia Cup which then serves as the qualifier for the Asian representatives for the Junior World Cup.

In the 2 pool Boys / men’s competition there are 8 teams as follows:

Pool A

Bangladesh, Hong Kong China, Iran and Singapore

Pool B

Chinese-Taipei, Macau China, Oman, and Sri Lanka

The Girls competition sees three teams namely Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong China and Singapore.

The competition proper starts on Sunday 21 December 2003 with all matches being played at the Delta Sports Stadium, Singapore.

The opening day fixtures which sees the boy’s matches are as follows:

21 December 2003

Match 1 1400hrs Bangladesh v Hong Kong China

Match 2 1600hrs Iran v Singapore

Match 3 1800hrs Oman v Sri Lanka

Match 4 2000hrs Chinese-Taipei v Macau China

The first day of girl’s matches which is on Monday 22 December 2003 sees Chinese-Taipei v Hong Kong China.

The Girls Finals is due to played on Saturday 27 December 2003 at 1800hrs while the Boys Finals would be held on 28 December 2003 at 1900hrs.

The Hong Kong National U21 Junior Players for the tournament are:

Men's Team

Gurcharan Bir Singh, Kieran Smith, Mandeep Singh, Navbir Singh Chhina, Gurdev Dhillon Singh, Mohar Preet Singh Dhillon, Zaki Detta Dad, Aman Singh Dillon, Preetpal Singh Chima, Mustafa Mohammed, Jatinder Singh Bal, Timothy King, Lenny Modder, Ravinder Singh Dillon, Chan Kwok Tung, Wong Tsz Mang, Ian Modder & Gurprit Singh.

Women's Team

Alana Smith, Tessa Yung, Sandra Frankland, Patricia Chiu, Olivia Chiu, Katherine Mountain, Kate Wong, Christina Lind, Barbara Mountain, Amanda Robertson, Candy Chan, Michelle Buxani, Grace Yung, Emilie Shaw, Hannah Duley & Michelle Bury.

Which Bullets Indian wrote this last comment...let me guess .......another one that does not like Guv because he plays for HKFC and not SSSC.............grow up please, and support those which volunteet their time for our sport, even if they are not qualified to do so or should have been playing for their club at the time

Im sorry....Im not pointing on Gurvin but he seriously did not coach many sessions..this is the truth of it....also what is the point for teh girls to play when they will only play 3 games?? isn't it a waste of money.. I think the girls rather u putting money for a tour which will allow them to play more than 3 games..

Tournaments favorites Hongkong U21 has lost again 2-1 to Iran .
HK have already lost all there Pool games.
I think HK boys are really enjoying there holidays in singapore. After
lost all the games , So let's not think of hockey anymore n just enjoy
your X'mas in Sin now.

i think HK future in hockey is really compromised as long as the "oldies" who refused to retire are still in the senior team.. the young ones really lacked the international experience. compared this to singapore whose current under 21 team form the bulk of the national team.

anyway i think it is not wrong of me to assume that the bangladesh team uses players who are over the age of 21 for this tournament. i heard form a reliable source that there is this bangladeshi player in the current under 21 tournament who played in the 1996 Junior asia cup!! that was almost 8 years ago. so he was only 14 when played in the 1996 under 21 international tournament??!!!???
