CHALLENGE CUP
- National League Starts on Saturday.

Challenge Cup

The Hunter's Tower Rest. (YS) registered their eight Challenge Cup triumph on Sunday when they overcome Punch & Judy Rabat 3-2 after the taking of penalties. Normal and extra time ended goalless as both sides battled out a balanced match in their quest to take the second honour of the season. Punch & Judy were not their usual selves and their usually effective short corner routines remained on the drawing board as The Hunter's Tower Rest. defence came out tops. The game produced little scoring chances as the two sides, certainly the best two teams at the moment, cancelled out each other. It was almost inevitable that the matter would have to be resolved with the taking of penalties. Even these were balanced. Both sides scored their first stroke and then went on to miss their next two. Young Stars edged out their opponents with the final two strokes as they scored twice while Rabat scored once. After the match HAM President Chris Busutill Leaver presented Charles Micallef, the Young Stars captain, with the Cha
llenge Cup (photo).

Before the Final Pasta Poiatti Qormi edged out The George Pub in the match for third place. The George Pub took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break thanks to a goal from Dejan Mihajlovic. Pasta Poiatti hit back in the second half and with Magri wreaking havoc they equalized thanks to a deflection from Darrell Housely. The George Pub withstood further pressure and the match seemed destined for extra time until in their final attack Pasta Poiatti grabbed the winner through Andrew Beane.

National League

With the end of the Challenge Cup the stage is now set for the start of the National League. From what has been seen so far reigning Champions Punch & Judy Rabat and The Hunter's Tower Rest. (YS) should lead the pack. From the other four teams Pasta Poiatti Qormi seem the best bet to put up a challenge to the two favourites. The George Pub have been hit by a number of crucial injuries that may hamper their progress while Sliema Hs and Celtic YS will be hoping that their youngsters will settle down and gel as quickly as possible.

Reigning Champions Punch & Judy set the ball rolling when they face The George Pub on Saturday at 17.00. The two matches on Sunday will see Sliema Hs facing Celtics YS at 09.00 while at 11.00, in what should be the most intriguing match of the weekend, The Hunter's Tower Rest. will face Pasta Poiatti Qormi.

Let Go Yellows
Well done Young Stars and tuff luck Rabat. You guys took the Super Cup so its only fair that now we once again have the Challenge Cup in hand. You should know that we now have a permanent place for it in our show case at the Club. (if you now what i mean!)

It really was a well balanced match as both teams evened each other but it was a sure win for us when it came to the penalty shoot out. In fact, although I stand to be corrected, I don't think that Rabat ever beat us when it came to penalties.

Anyway, well done to all and LET GO YELLOWS, our next step is the league!

Bdejna naraw Kbir!U jghidu li tal Hamrun Jaraw Kbir!

In my opinion Rabat are the favourites for the league and if the other clubs level is that seen in the challenge cup I thing it will be a 2 team run between Rabat and Floriana YS.

If the teams that played the 3/4 place does not do big changes I believe they will never win a game against the better 2 while Sliema are finding it difficult against every opposition. The other team Celtics) is still in his first arms and apart from the 5 senior players the rest are kids and I bet they will finish at the end of the Table, if not they would really have done an achevement.

ras....
first of all celtics have been playing very good hockey vis a vis their resources.... and despite their limited resources we have beat the first team, gave a hard time to hotstick in which match was very balanced and did very good matches with other teams....

Further more if both teams, Floriana Youngstars and Rabat play the type of game they showed last weekend i think that none of them will win anything. In my opinion if Hotsticks had to play as a team and not like a charging bulldozer, i am sure that young Michael Caruana Smith with some good hockey will sure give a tough test to the other teams.....

Well anyway ras i wish you could identify your self so that if we play against each other, at the end of the match you could repeat to me that we are just some kids and some senior players playing heartily the game of hockey.

dear zajru,
even my mum knows how you win against your first team. They left two internationals on the bench,And being good friends of you and your team they decide not to win agains you. When you score the first goal ,thay score seconds later! Unfortunetly for them you scores your second penanty with your last touch of the ball. But i don`t think thay lett you win anymore ! Hunters tower seems to win only important games, games where results count. HAPPY CHRISTMAS

...... il kbir
from your comments it is obvious that you are not a youngstars player cause if you were you would know that nothing was given to us. Besides even hotsticks scored just after five minutes we scored and i dont think there was anything decided before hand... any way since Young stars defended their results cause we had a slight chance of passing and if we did, they wouldnt reach the semis but since you have not made you common sense sums i do not blame you.

Besides i think that it is quite obvious that you were not wathcing the match cause you would have noticed certain sportive competition between the two sides but anyway not every one can see that

"Hunters tower seems (seem) to win only important games, games where results count" i dont know which doesnt....

Even then if you are right ....... il kbir i thank Youngstars for their charitable gesture and i would have liked to know your big name or whatever it is so that may be you could also maybe spear Celtics some points...

Happy christmas to you too
