"The II Brazilian Indoor Championship, the last official competition promoted by Brazilian Hockey Association, will be held at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro on this weekend. Seven teams will compete at this tournament: Casa de Macau "A", Casa de Macau "B", SPAC and Clube Indiano, all from São Paulo; and Germania, Rio Hockey and Clube da Aeronáutica, from Rio de Janeiro.
The Brazilian Hockey Association is working on development of new players and teams out of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The new state that was chosen to begin this work in 2004 is Santa Catarina, in the south region of Brazil. Claudio Rocha, the Technical Director of Brazilian Association and national goalkeeper for many years, was chosen to start this program in Florianópolis - capital of Santa Catarina and is in contact with many institutions (schools, clubs and universities) to promote hockey at the south of the country.
"We expect to have a considerable number of new players for next year. We are working very hard to promote hockey in Florianópolis, and specially, for women. As the Pan American Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2007, we are working hard to have a competitive team for this competition."
